Osteoporosis Platform

Osteoporosis Platform was formed by Turkish Osteoporosis Society, Osteoporosis Patient Society, The Society of Life with Osteoporosis, Turkish Joint Diseases Foundation, and The Turkish Endocrinology and Metabolism Society.

Turkish Osteoporosis Society
Turkish Osteoporosis Society comprising 233 members was established in 1998 in Istanbul. The Society is dedicated to improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and to provide information with free educational publications and programs to patients, healthcare professionals and the public. The Society works in cooperation with healthcare professionals in order to spread information on occurrence, facilities for diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. The Journal “From the Osteoporosis World” is published quarterly to provide clinicians with new insights into osteoporosis. The Turkish Osteoporosis Society is a member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation.

Osteoporosis Patient Society
The Osteoporosis Patient Society comprising 250 members was found in 2001. The Society consists of scientific committee, public relation committee and social committee. The aims of the Society are creating awareness of osteoporosis, improving quality of life of patients with osteoporosis, preventing falls and bone fracture, solve social issues associated with osteoporosis, creating funds and cooperate with related societies and corporations. 9th IOF World Wide Conference of Osteoporosis Patient Societies was held in Istanbul, Turkey, September 4-7, 2003. Osteoporosis Patient Society supports the `International Osteoporosis Action Journal` with scientific manuscripts and patient stories.

The Society Of Life With Osteoporosis
The Society of Life with Osteoporosis was established on May 16th, 2003 for raising public knowledge and awareness and prevention of the disease. This not-for-profit, national society deals with problems of patients with osteoporosis. Arranging programs for prevention of the disease, keeping the community advised on osteoporosis, informing the population on current developments, searching for solutions for increasing the patients’ quality of life, and solving osteoporosis related social problems are among the aims of the Society. The Society of Life with Osteoporosis comprises 160 members.

Turkish Joint Disease Foundation
The aim and objective of the Turkish Joint Disease Foundation established in 1990 is to enhance the awareness and knowledge of the governments, patients and orthopedic surgeons on joint diseases, osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. The foundation publishes a periodical journal covering subjects on joint diseases and surgical interventions, and distributes 2000 copies free of charge. The journal cooperates with numerous scientific journals in USA and Turkey and publishes manuscripts of local and international authors. The president of the Foundation is also the national coordinator of the Bone and Joint Decade’s Motion. The Turkish Joint Disease Foundation is member of IOF.

The Society Of Endocrinology And Metabolism Of Turkey
The Society of Endocrinology of Turkey was established in 1964 under presidentship of Serdar Tavat. The Society was renovated in 1995 and renamed ‘The Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism of Turkey`. The Society comprises 254 active members. The Society has renewed its membership in the International Society of Endocrinology and in 1997 has been accepted to the European Federation of Endocrine Societies. The Society organizes workshops on hypophysis, thyroid, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, other metabolic bone diseases, adrenal and gonadal diseases, obesity, lipid metabolisms, gonads and hypertension and metabolic syndromes. Besides performing researches, master’s degree programs and educational courses for general practitioners and internal disease specialists are being organized in this group studies.
